Waste Reduction & Recycling Specialist – Seasonal
Job Summary
This is a seasonal position responsible for assisting with organics recycling programs, researching and implementing a re-use event or fix-it clinics, and providing education and outreach to residents and businesses within Sherburne County.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The following duties are normal for this position. These duties are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.
Assist with organics recycling program.
- Promote and register participants for organics recycling program at Farmers Markets and other community events
- Monitor organics drop-off locations for use and contamination
- Educate residents and staff on recycling and organics recycling
- Promote increased education and outreach to schools
- Assist with increasing organics recycling throughout the County
- Research best practices on organics recycling
Research, advertise for, and implement a re-use event or fix-it clinic.
- Research successful re-use events or fix-it clinics that have been hosted by other cities, townships, or counties
- Determine locations and methodology needed for hosting events
- Advertise for and host a re-use event that results in zero-waste or fix-it clinics
- Develop a “how-to” guide for staff to replicate such events in the future
Provide education and outreach to residents and businesses within Sherburne County
- Generate Environmental Educator and Business Recycling Educator articles
Provide additional assistance to Dept. staff on recycling and/or reuse outreach programs.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required
Ability to be a self-starter.
Excellent interpersonal communication skills.
Comfortable with public speaking and presenting to a group.
Interest in waste reduction and recycling initiatives.
Interviews will take place the week of April 27th.Minimum Qualifications
An individual must meet the minimum qualifications as stated below to qualify for this position.
High School Diploma or GED; AND
At least one year of experience in education and outreach.
Interest in waste reduction and recycling initiatives is preferred.
Supplemental Information
This is a seasonal position, meaning it is limited to 67 working days per calendar year.
Work schedule days and hours are flexible based on candidate's availability.
